Family/Living Room Makeover: Before And After

When we moved in, our raised family/living room didn't have a wall closing it in, which meant one could step off a ledge right down into the dining room space below (previously a pool table room). The previous owners minimized potential disaster by placing their couch and a few other pieces of furniture in front of the ledge. Here was the family/dining room before:

We replaced the Berber carpet with hardwood floors and painted the area a neutral gray. We also gave the built-in a fresh coat of bright white paint.

And to address the drop-off we built a half wall because; safety first! Read more about the half-wall and dining room renovation here.

We also added crown molding (painted in bright white) to finish off the floors and ceiling.

We purchased the couch from Lazyboy and I adore it! Although it took over 10 weeks to get here and I almost couldn't make it through the wait!

Once the couch finally arrived I realized I had to bring the blue color into the room more, so I painted the back of the built-in (read more about that here).

Overall, I'm loving how the family/living room is shaping up. What do you think?
